Overdesign just wastes money and if not properly designed and catches fire, no insurance cover. As a side, the reviews for this style of electric winches for boat trailers are mostly, very negative so I looked at X-Bull (good brand) and the 6500lb is as you say a bit over the top, but only about $30 more than the 5000lb - moot though because all out of stock. Still after max 12v current draw at 6500lbs pull.
As you say the 6500 lb is out of stock, not sure why as it's not even listed on the xbullauto Australian website. The nearest I can give you is the 4500 lb which is 260 amps/12v max draw.

If you got your hands on a 6500 lb then it would be around 300 amps at max draw but the argument is moot as it just doesn't appear to be available. Xbull looks to now have skipped the sizes between 4500 lb and 10000 lb, probably due to incremental gains it's not worth producing. But then again it could only be the Australian supplier.
