    Fishing Rod Storage while Travelling

How does everyone store their gear when travelling. All our reels get removed and wrapped in real covers, put into a backpack and stored in the car.

Rod wise, I've looked at so many over the years, but just couldn't find the right thing. My SIL recently put me on to these canvas fishing rod rolls, I got a couple of them, and they have been great. I put each rod into it's own sleeve, then put them into the roll, roll up and put in the boat.

    Wondering how others do it.

Well fly rods are all sorted in the cases. reels are in the covered reels bags and rods have rod sleeves and bundles up as one to travel.

The best thnk ive found for reels is a big red first aid kit, leader and spare line in a internal pocket on the lid and the segmented compartments make it easy to carry all my bait casters and spinners.

Over the years ive seen 4inch and 6inch condute used for rods but not a bit fan of that if the rods have sleeves there componants dont get tangled and now with the marvelous things from temu ive got plastic velcro lure covers the wrap around the lure so no more rod tangles and scratches from lures going from boat to car.

On long trips rods were in individual wraps, armour rod or something like that name look nice but can be pricey. On trips up north and into NT I used to pack my reels into icecream containers, the reels wrapped in bubble wrap. The icecream containers stacked nicely, don't remember the brand of icecream though.

For really short trips, mostly short these days, I use double sided Velcro, ensure the loop is what's in contact with the line/braid. I use a loop about the 3rd runner down and one near the reel. The one up the top is needed as the rods want to breed, especially light 2-4kg rods and the Velcro is the best birth control. The number of times I've not bothered and find that once again there's a tangle. I don't know how they can do it as if I try to do it intentionally I can't do it.
One of the sad signs of our times is that we have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce and canonized those who complain.

    Make up a PVC tube

wrap your rod in its sleeve or Rod armour ......... You can then secure it to the roof rack or in the boat - you certainly wont be breaking any rods

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

I find this kind of thing really good. Seem to protect a bit better than the calico/cloth covers. For long distance transport, including really bad roads, I put rods inside 100mm sewer pipe, fixed cap one end, screw on at the other. WARNING--they really need to be inside some sort of cover when you do this. In our early years of doing one particularly arduous, badly corrugated road, I found that one rod would always have some runner damage if you just put them inside the tube without protection. Once they all started going into cloth bags, or some kind of cover, no further damage. They will travel like this on the deck of the boat with stuff on top, zero problems.
The rollered game rods all go into that stretchy tube stuff, as in the link above.
Oh and the reels go into a tub, old towel folded on the bottom, reels packed in neoprene covers or heavy cloth bags, heavy ones on the bottom, then another old folded towel, lighter ones on top.

I put my reels into a sock, like an explorer wool sock, then wrap the excess around the reel. Works great.
