    Plastisol soft plastics

image.jpg image.jpg My first 8 inch 6 inch and 4 inch plastics I’ve used medium plastisol and it swims a better than the original as I’m hand pouring I’m getting a air cavity in the head , I’ll make another mold and extend the pouring plug hole so the air cavity is further up into the plug hole.

With a thin tail in the 8 inch it’s hard to get an even mold so I’m thinking of making a resin plug and try again .

when I get things right I’ll by an expencive plastic and mold it .

I just got the 2.5 kg dingo plaster Paris but I think I’ll get the dentil stuff next

We need to see the resulting catches now.

Yer i will use the pearl one for jew im waiting on some bits and pieces to turn up to make up some osprey rigs ive found the bits i needed on Temu of all places and some larger hooks .

The best thing is that you can just remelt it and use it again when you make a mistake.

But today i picked up a mini oven so i can heat my molds first and keep my pots hot after cooking them up and as i see it it will keep the plastic at a temperature so it can degas before i pour.

Its interesting to see how the different plastics affect the swiming action, in a medium one swims better at slow speed were the original needs more speed before the tail gets going thats beauty of bath tub testing.

This is what got me interested but its very expencive to get all the gear but this is how they do it,if you go to the 18min in this vid you will see the nicest soft plastics.

They normaly do twin injecters with a blending block and some molds they make the tails first then put them into another mold and the inject another colour for the body.

This guy is very good to watch and can do a lot of stuff with different molds with hand pouring first then injecting or hand pouring.

I'd like to try some of those jerk baits, this could get addictive Chris, careful you might spend more time making lures instead of fishing.

I made another mold made an injector out of a strut and injected this mold I’m pretty happy with it just a bit of flashing on the sides due to the pressure I’ll make a resin plug from this mold and make a silicon mold from that .Attachment 127548

Interesting view of the Vid , would be intersting to know how many onboard make their own soft plastic and if worthwhile costwise ??.
Just recieved fifty odd softies , purchased online with cost being so low doubt it would be that low making ones own unkless just want to make specific shape lures??.

It depends on what ones you want to make there chucking $30 - $50 and $60 soft plastics at barra these days and lossing them so if you can make them cheaper you dont mind doing that and you can make your own recipies or colour blend ,and besides that its fun and very satisfying and yes you can by a lot for the cost but you wont want to spend a heap the expencive ones .

You just need some plastisol a old microwave a pyrex jug a knife to stir and mica powder and glitter and some plaster paris and a infred thermomiter and some creativity.

It dose cost a lot to set up it you want to sell them commercialy aluminium cad cut molds are expencive and so are the injectors and mixing blocks.

Yes if you watch what that guy dose with his hand pouring and the way he dusts or paints the mold first its good to see how its done, and theres a lot of stuff on temu and fleabay to get it cheaper.

And the best part is that if you stuff up you just chop it up and remelt it and do it again and yes theres a so much on youtube to watch to learn the yanks have been doing this for decades and the mold makers are getting younger and smarter with the new technoligy they have to play with today.

I watch a guy do a mold for someone and the cad said it was 9hr to make a 2piece hand pour mold so i can see why the ally ones are dear to buy.

When i first saw a two colour soft plastic lure i thought theres a lot of white fella magic to make that and as it turns out its easy and many ways to go about it.

Right I’ve found a vid in how to grow and shrink silicon molds I did not think it was possible but it’s very easy you can grow and shrink them 18to 20 % so I’m going to try it you just use mineral spirits to shrink if you mix it 1 part mineral spirit to 1 part mixed silicon and to shrink it and with a set silicon mold you just soak the mold in the mineral spirits to grow it or you can use Novocs which is a silicone solvent and it makes it grow too.

So with one mold you can make 3 sizes of what you have made win win .
