    Sonar interference

Just looking for some thoughts on a plan I have. The boat I recently bought, every cable has been tightly zipped tied together from the stern through to the CC including the transducer cable. This causes interference even at idle speed. I don't have a lot of room to separate the cables and until I've decided on another sounder/GPS I don't want to spend a lot of effort rerouting the cable to the port side.
I do have some a/c insulating foam pipe which I was going to put a lengthwise slit in and sheath the transducer cable. I was going to sheath this foam with alum tape of which I have several rolls. Would this separation of around 15mm with the alum tape help shield the interference.
I know it sounds like a bit of work but doing that would take me about 10 - 15 mins (i have thicker foam but it won't fit through some of the spaces) and be the easier solution in the short term, if it worked I'd probably leave it there.

On my previous boats I always kept transducer cables separated and running down the port side of the boat away from any power cables. This looks like a factory setup, everything bundled up and run through as a loom, I'mjust hoping that thete aren't any zip ties in behind the channel that runs down from the gunnels to under the floor, then it becomes a whole lot bigger project.
I think my idea will work, there should be enough separation and the aluminium tape should act as a shield. I will be getting another unit and haven't made up my mind whether to keep this one yet.

Is there any way of pulling it all out and lifting the floor and putting in another conduit to run it separately!!!!

Started doing it today, to reroute it to the port side is going to be awkward by the looks if things but lifted the floor and as the tranny cable wasn't long enough there was an extension lead which means that will be easy to rerouting. The main cable will be easier to sleeve once that is done, just a lot of zippy ties to be cut and replaced. I've not enough of the insulation tube so will get some more and wrap the aluminium tape around it and it should do the job. I think that will be better than running it in a bare conduit or plastic hose as the ally should block some interference.
Another more important job that needs doing comes first so the boat will wait till tomorrow, can't go fishing anyway as it's blowing 20 -25 knots here.

I have to go to Jaycar for some other bots and pieces so might start wirh a ferrite core suppressor as a quick fix.

    Re: Sonar interference

I've had an ongoing problem with AP interference on the 175M since fitting out the boat, running at rolling speed. it comes in stripes down the screen as the AP drive runs. The transducer cable was run down the same side, but not tied together. After having it annoy me for three years, I bit the bullet and ran the cable down the other side, where it is near nothing. Guess what? Absolutely no difference. Drain is connected, ballasts are fitted. I've actually managed to tune it out lately. using the TX tuning ability now available on the Raymarine system.

So I had some time this afternoon so I thought I'd start with adding a ferrite core to the transducer cable. Needing a bit more cable so I could form a loop I started to separate the cables. Whoever did the wiring must have shares in a zip tie company, one every 35mm, what the hell. Nothing worse trying to cut zip ties on a tight bundle of cables in tight spaces. 2 hrs later the cable has been separated with lots of effort.
