Question New Caledonia - What happened?

    Hi All,

New Caledonia was the place to go for GTs and dogtooth 20 years ago, but it seems to have fallen off the radar in terms. I am struggling to find any fishing lodges or much fishing action at all.

Can anyone recommend anything there? Any idea why it is no longer the Mecca it once was?

    Cheers, Al

When we were heading overseas last year I was looking at New Caledonia, from what I read, it can be a touch and go place to be, safety wise, maybe that has something to do with it. I can't verify this, we went elsewhere, just taking a guess.
    Cheers

Why dont you do a charter out Saumarez or Fredericks or Kato reefs on Nomad charters i think they do those reefs you will get all the GT and Dogtooh your arms can handle or do the Swains reefs a bit closer to travel.

Been there lots of times, currently (for the last year) New Caledonia has been closed to tourists because of political unrest, lots of rioting going on, especially in Noumea, but the Government closed the whole place, no cruise ships have been there for ages now. A few of the Islands were closed indefinitely when Covid hit and haven’t reopened since, so with all that, the chances of going there soon is slim.
