Dsc / gps vhf

G'day people,
Does anybody have a hand held vhf with dsc and gps function?
Is it worth having this considering we have epirbs?
And how many vmr's can actually receive gps positions anyway. Here's a link to the gme one. Thoughts?

I have a hand held 5W Uniden equivalent in my emergency pack. However, the range is limited to "in sight" receivers, i.e. it has worked for me in southern Moreton Bay to contact VMR Raby Bay on occasions, but never offshore. I still rely on my fixed ICOM 10W unit when crossing the South Passage Bar. I think it may be a useful backup if you are in the water and the search and rescue boat is within a 5km range of sight. Perhaps a good walkie talkie would do the same thing. SS
