Thread: Anyone running larger sounder on the bow?

Anyone running larger sounder on the bow?

I’m interested in mounting a 12-16inch sounder at the bow for lurecasting. Has anyone got a good setup for securely mounting a sounder at a height that you can keep an eye on without having to bend and peer at the screen? Ideally it would also allow easy sounder removal for rough water, road etc. Hip height would be perfect but probably impractical? Keen to hear your views. Cheers

its pretty common with the bass cod guys
you can buy strong mounts that can take the weight of the sounders

Thanks Steve. So the RAM mount was fine with an 8412? Did you have the long arm or one of the shorter ones?

I used a long one and mates have doubled up with two long ones connected

have to really crank down on the handle and reinforce under the deck I used some 5mm 30x20cm
no real reason for that size just that’s how big the piece was and it fit under the deck in my case

That looks pretty good. Did you ever wish it was higher, or was that a good height?
Side question - I’m trying to decide between Humminbird 360 and the Garmin Livescope. Hard to find good comparisons that don’t involve people sponsored by one or the other. Interested in whether you have found the livescope to be as good as you hoped? My main use will be to sit 20-30m of Barra and threadies up current of me and be casting in the right spot, in estuaries and inshore

    No was ok for me
if went higher I’d have to get one of those gfab or a yank unit and really reinforce the deck

    I sold the boat yesterday

Garmin were first and still seem to be on more boats at the ramp
I havnt used the other brands to compare
