Mechanic already serviced carburetor. Said he changed power pack, optical eye.
Is this a problem on these motors? Any ideas.
Might be a dirty high speed jet if it has one definatly sounds like it
Can't tell/test anything running on the flushers (that's the only movie I saw) you need to be under load for any real test. Possibles...carbs need a "proper" cleaning, most mechanics just wash or spray them, or clean the jets, there is passages in the carb itself that need cleaning. Spark..plug failing, lead failing, coil failing, do all the plugs look the same when removed? that could narrow it down to a certain cylinder if ones dry/oily/black/clean. can you run it off a seperate portable tank, complete with fuel line, primer bulb and fresh fuel? is the oil injection still connected? has the fuel pump been checked for leaks?
Oh, and any "mechanic" that cleans carbs, replaces the power pack and optical eye, and it's still no good needs his bum kicked.
As Noelm said you can’t clean carbs with a can of anything
disassemble ultrasonic clean new gaskets and jets needle seats
Carbs can be tricky and time consuming to do properly that's for sure, Yamahas are particularly hard to clean 100%
I had the impression they did a proper service on the carbs as they waited for weeks for the carb kit. Does anyone know a trustworthy marine mechanic in Perth? I'm really not handy enough to do the troubleshooting. It sounds like this problem can be fixed, rather than a fatal issue?

I think a lot of people are worried about the cost for "problem solving" unfortunatly, a trained ear or eye can spot stuff much quicker than fred next door can but the unsuspected bill for $400 for finding a $30 part problem is what sends customers roring but people dont see the 20 hours chasing there tail trying to find a fault as valued time sadly
Its all about money these days everyone is tight as general living expenses are enormous
But as they say bring out another thousand lol some engine problems are better diagnosed by specialist, i do all my own work and even i need specialist help or advice at times
Im a little confused....if the motors been serviced.....was it doing this before the service? I reckon you might talk to the mechanic about the problem....any decent sort of man would at least look at it ..in the hope that its just a blocked jet etc...and take it from there....but you start fiddling with it and you will own the problem completely...
