Help identifying make and model of this boat

Wondering if someone can help with identifying the make and model of this boat? I'm looking at it for a project boat, and want to try and identify it. The hull looks solid, and I can only find a serial number, but it's not in a HIN format, so no use there. Couldn't immediately locate a builders plate either. Dimensions appear to be 4.6m LOA, 1.7m beam and approx. 600mm from top of inside floor to hull. The transom is stamped with 50HP max, however as I want something a to handle bays and ocean, I think this is probably a bit small for that purpose?

Also, with the max HP, can this be increased at all? For example, can a thicker transom be added to increase the engine capacity to something like 70hp? Does everything like the stringers have to be taken into account to prevent twisting of the boat?

Looks like someone has done a quick/cheap/home handyman/bodgy transom job already.

I think it's going to be a 15ft Rover half cab. I definitely want a project boat to work on, but I think the hull is going to be too small for what I want. I currently have a 4.3m Savage gannet tinny, but its no good in the bay if there any sort of chop, and I want something that will be comfortable in the bay, and even the ocean within a couple of km's of land. I just don't think this will be big enough for that.

Plenty of serious boats around for rebuilding as a offshore boat but 5.5 meters+ are not a walk in the park to rebuild so u may need to stay focused on the project for a little while, i have heard of guys knocking over v17 and v19 hulls in around 5 months most taking around the 2 year mark it just depends on available time to do the work

There are a lot of guys that hit the end of the demo than sell or give away for free the hulls for whatever reasons

Looks like the old 15ft Pride halfcab. If it is, it wouldn't be worth the effort of fixing it, TBH. You could get something a couple of foot longer, and much more capable, and, starting from the same base level of general disrepair, and the work to bring it up to scratch wouldn't be any more.

If your in QLD this would be worthy of a restore V19C Haines Hunter

2k delivered makes that one look like a bargain in comparison. A hull with a strong reputation also.

Unfortunately I'm in Vic, so QLD is definitely not on the cards for this. I have the option to purchase that hull for $500 inc. trailer from a neighbough. My only concern is that it's only 4.6m long, and maybe a tad small for bay/inshore fishing, which is what I want it for. The transom looks recently repaired, but I'm not opposed to redoing it if required, or to beef it up for a bigger motor.

id say go a bit bigger if you can , aim for 17 ft for PPB chop

I have read PPB can be choppy i have been caught out in little boats like a 2.9m tinny and a Pongrass and i never want to be in that position again especially the 14ft Pongrass.. hair rasing scary

As for power what are u looking at putting on a hull? Two or four stroke? Not all hulls can take a big engine, that v19c i linked to there are guys running 2x 200hp outboards on those beast,

I'll have a quick look for something down south for you

@gazza2006au: Thanks mate, I did see that ad, but listing says it's only 14ft, which is smaller than the 15ft one.

I've been in PPB in my 4.3m ally savage, with some chop and it wasn't great fun. The motion stationary didn't bother me as much as the slow punt back to the ramp. The ally boat just slapped the top of the waves, and didn't really cut through them, which was a jarring ride.

I'm looking for something that will handle 70hp min, ideally 90-115 would be perfect, which was why I was asking if there a ways to add a bigger motor. After doing reading and your advice, I think I'll keep a look out for something at least 5m.

The goal really is to be able fish bays and be able to travel a couple of km's from shore and a pretty decent range for a good days fishing, without being a 6-7 meter boat.

Maybe I'll hit up Bowdidge for some plans for the cruise control 5.2 or broadwater 5.1. I was hoping to shortcut alot of the work though lol.

    Cheers, Justin

hmm...PPB...can be rough and cold..I had a Haines V16C and it was very competent at sea but small enough to be easy to tow and store...I guess the point for me is ..if youre going to spend the time and effort and expense in redoing an old boat...you want to be sure that it will be what you want to use for years...because you wont get your money back flipping an old amateur rebuild of an unloved brand....Again down south for me ..for anything other than fairweather fishing/rec a cuddy is useful....although it reduces fishing space...

What’s the budget, tow vehicle and space to store it ?
plenty of complete boats come up for sale that will cost less then restoring someone else’s junk
