    A Few mackies in FNQ.

Went for a quick spin out to the bait grounds off Mission beach today..

Had a bit of a troll for no hits so pulled up and dropped the leccy on a bit of bait show in 25m of water..

I was looking forward to getting into a few but the missus and our French Canadian Wwoofer Annabelle had other ideas so I just acted as deckie for them for a great little mackie session...

The girls dropped down a couple of 4 for $10 Kmart jigs(with upgraded split ring and treble) and got about 25 mixed mack's into the boat in an hour and a half including this nice Broad Barred mackie that bought some real joy to a chick that had only ever landed an undersized flathead before...

Had time for a bit of a snorkel around Dunk island and then home nice and early...

For dinner we turned the fattest one into melt in your mouth oily, buttery sushimi which was delicious....

There's nothing better than the reaction and look on the face of someone catching their first, or something awesome like that. We did it with out son's GF last weekend, her first ever fish, wasn't size like this one, but the reaction is priceless, those days will stay with you forever. I also like to sit back and play deckie when they're out with us, get a bit more enjoyment watching them having a crack.
There's a few Mackies around in the north at the moment, we're hoping to get out again this weekend. Had no luck trolling last weekend either, and then called it quits and sat on a reef for not much to report, but this weekend if the weather plays nice, will duck out the front again.
    Cheers

Shaun its always a good day out when its 5 knots or less of wind in FNQ.

Yeah Corry you are spot-on...its very cool and rewarding to see that reaction and the happiness it brings..it brings a big smile to everyone, doesnt it...

Even my missus still gets pretty excited and flustered when she is onto a good fish...I have to remind her to calm down ...2 weeks back I was hoping to see her get onto her first legal Red Emperor on her new deck winch but only managed to find a school of nannies..

Looks like the winds will be picking up again on Friday in FNQ.

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

She does love her Silvers, mate and the excitement of having a hungry school under the boat...

Gotta love winter fishing in Qld, Wahoo ..!

While we were fishing about 20 km's out, a boat pulled up about a kilometer away coming back from the reef and slowly headed our direction..

The 3 young fellas and a girl pulled up right next to us a while later under trolling motor power and asked if we had a spare can of fuel..

    Lucky I had 2 x 20l jerries in the kill tank ....
