What is everyone using. I want one that can be left on while towing. The type I have as in the picture is useless, I'm always fixing it.

Maturity is not when we start speaking BIG things,it is when we start understanding small things
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
But you can't tow with it on.

Ive towed with the lock Tropicrows has pictured and bent it slightly out of shape a few times by tight reversing.
Nothing a huge lever won't fix.
It's also saved the boat & trailer coming off on more than 1 occasion when 'that bloody useless kid of mine' (luv him really) has towed the boat with the towball handle lock lever in the 'up' position.
Good insurance in my mind, even if it's not the perfect solution.
Cheers

Helmet hitch for me.

I'm using the Saracen Ultra - saracen-ultra-hitch-lockI.jpg You can use it when the trailer is both coupled & uncoupled (don't try towing with it though as you can bend them)
So when I park the trailer at the ramp & I've got concerns (overnighter / remote) - I just hook it up using the lock
You certainly wont get them off in a hurry

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

They are a great bit of kit. Club Marine gave me a discount on my insurance with this.
I’m not saying that they’re thief proof, because let’s face it, if the bastards want it bad enough they’ll take it.
In saying that, it would need a angle grinder with at least three batteries to go through the helmet hitch which in my opinion would be enough to deter the scumbags to look elsewhere.
edit- Whitworths stock them and price match.
So you deactivate the alarm....cool

Helmet Hitch buy far the best locking device
The helmet hitch looks good but it's only as good as the lock. I guarantee the lock shown I can disable in 1 second. I've had to do it before as my brother had lost the key and I did ask him if he wanted to keep the lock, he said No, and before he could change his mind it was unlocked. You need to pay literally $100 + to get a decent padlock, in fact around $250 Will get you a really good one, including an outer rotating case.
Mine came with a stainless padlock completely different to the one in that photo. It’s actually tucked up further than the one shown. Like I said, if the bastards want it bad enough they’ll take it.
Helmet hitches are a great visual deterrent, however being cast iron they are quite quickly cut off with a battery grinder.
Before you buy, check you have suitable clearance between the end of the tow bar and the draw bar on the trailer, I know my drawbar is too close to the end of the tongue to fit one.
