Re: Breaksea M&G breakdown - Maritime Men's Shed

shame you didn't get the Saturday fish in craig. a lot more action than on the Friday. we did pretty well with good numbers of fish but no stand outs - the best going just under 5kg. we got a good mixed bag made up of tuskies, gold spot wrasse, sea perch, red throats, maori cod, wire netting cod, tomato cod and a few hussar. fish we didn't see on this trip were pearlies, trout and red emps. we passed on chasing the billies so we could bring home a feed and were happy with the result. bruce will post up the pics. was a smashing social occasion yet again and great to catch up with everyone. looking forward to the next...

    What a great trip again
Cheers to horse for picking another cracker weekend
Great to catch up with everyone again . The radio show was fantastic with a few guest appearances from some legends
    Met a few new faces
We bagged out on tusks with a good mixed bag some red throat a couple of pearls . A few gold spot and of course the metre long yellow fin tuna won't go into weights cause all my scales are dodgey but easy 15 to 20 kg
Matts first . And now he likes trolling ( go figure )
Will post up some pics later

What a weekend fellas. How good are these Ausfish M&Gs. Well done to those who came and enjoyed the great weather combined with the mateship typical of an Ausfish M&G. Fishing the Break Sea Spit is really pushing the envelope for a lot of the smaller vessels and is still a major logistical exercise for the bigger boats. To get 17 or 18 boats and I would hazard a guess around 45 members and guests to a M&G in that part of the world is pretty special.
Coming around the corner of Roonies to see a dozen boats rafted up was amazing. Within a few minutes another three boats had joined the on water party. It was a fair effort to work across all the boats to catch up with everyone and at one stage I had to put a radio call back to Gina Maree for more XXXX supplies. In due course the refill turned up handed from boat to boat. Thanks fellas.
As usual the company was excellent and the radio chatter very entertaining. A special thanks to Brett and Wardy (and their faithful sidekicks) who came to our aid when our front fuel tank was found to have a gutful of water then shadowed us home to make sure we made it in OK. You are both legends.
OK a lot of us can cross Break Sea Spit off the Bucket List. Where to next?

Best raft up ever! That shot was before the capacity which I think reached 17 boats. It was abuzz with activity and one lonely, orphaned fat kid eating his way from boat to boat. Care to guess who? If you needed a beer then just jump on channel 68 and call one up. Quite possibly the funnest evening on a M&G I have had. Team Old Salt had a slow couple of days fishing but a great few days socialising. Caught a few fish and Giffo got his first Marlin but the sharks took a lot of good fish. Weather was nothing short of spectacular as well as the company. Thanks Marty and Jim for a huge effort catering. We definitely didn't go hungry. Neither did that fat orphaned kid.

Thanks to Steve as we'll for the fuel to get me home I don't think I would have really made it with my guage showing 2 litres of the original fuel left
And it would have been embarrassing pushing the yammie over the finish line

It was that flat they let me drive over the bar!

Nah, the 13 mile doesnt get under 5m and is really good, the 4 mile got to 2m but wasnt any trouble. Conditions were awesome though....

First time for me up there. Was deckie for the trip but take great interest in bar crossings. We chose the 4 mile and it was easy. The fact it was dead flat with no wind probably helped. Looked to be a good option even in a bit of swell though.

Re: Breaksea M&G breakdown - Maritime Men's Shed

Thanks Dave, don't know who got a bigger fright when I stood up on Friday, you or me...

They were the highlightspics, even the kids when they saw the photos said "Dad you got photobombed !!!!!", was too funny not to post.

I reckon we need to organise two Breaksea trips, one in billfish season and another in prime bottom fish season. Shame both season's don't overlap a bit more.

Another thing, now I understand the fuel dump arrangements I can carry more, stash it on the beach and play another day

    Had a good time ........
