While I support the idea in general, I have reservations as to why a Government would not offset areas for recreational fishos after such events. Why not open up a green zone or two ?
If the Government are so inclined to support the local community, maybe the trawlers should be selling their product to the local market only.. ?
Maybe the Government should be cleaning out the river of flood debris and things.
The recreational fishery economic input in the Bundaberg / Burnett region far exceeds the commercial trawl input, so why not treat the rec fishos with the respect they deserve, instead of sucking up to a commercial enterprize, that when the folks got into it, knew the risks associated.
Cane growers, pro fishers etc all cry foul when weather etc affects them and expect the government to give them handouts and other support. When does the rec fisho get their fair share ?
We get green zones, seasonal closures, bag limits, size limits and more................. it's about time the government paid us back for OUR support.
Minister McVeigh needs to start rolling out the Artificial reefs.........now !
