LNP invests $120 million in boating and fishing infrastructure, deepening waterways

LNP pledges $120 million funds for marine infrastructure fund
LNP Member for Cleveland, and Shadow Minister for Main Roads, Fisheries and Marine Infrastructure, Mark Robinson has welcomed the LNP’s $120 million package to build more boat ramps, artificial reefs, fishing pontoons and deepen channels over the next four years.
“This is part of the LNP’s commitment to fix two decades of neglect of marine infrastructure under this tired, 20-year Labor government,” Mr Robinson said.
The Marine Infrastructure Fund will spend $120 million over four years to improve access to Queensland’s marine environment.
Fifty million dollars will go to small marine infrastructure such as boat ramps and fishing pontoons for our recreational fishers and boaties.
“The rest will be invested into key access improvements at Trinity Inlet in Cairns and the Gold Coast Broadwater as the LNP understands the importance of getting the basics right.
“A CanDo LNP Government will invest in improving access to the Broadwater and key Gold Coast waterways with $30 million over the next four years for essential deepening work.
“In addition we will re-establish a Gold Coast Waterways Authority to guide future day to day operation of this great natural asset.
“The LNP understands fishing is one of the most popular pastimes in Queensland and is committed to giving fishers and boaties a better deal.
“We will work with fishing and boating groups and responsible environmental advocates to achieve common sense and value-for-money outcomes.”
Mr Robinson said fishing and marine recreation had suffered under Premier Anna Bligh, Fisheries Minister Craig Wallace and Labor which was more focussed on green spin than on practical action to provide infrastructure to protect the marine environment while allowing Queenslanders to enjoy fishing and boating in coastal waters.
“Only a CanDo LNP Government will consult widely, plan properly and deliver the right infrastructure to allow Queenslander to enjoy our coastal waterways.
“It’s time for a change. A strong and united LNP Government will get Queensland back on track.”

    Mark,

a similar announcement has already been posted in a different thread.

    here's my part.

    Re: LNP Fishing policy

A CanDo LNP Government will create a $120 million Marine Infrastructure Fund to ensure Queenslanders can fully enjoy our great marine heritage and lifestyle.
Under the current tired 20 year Labor Government, the ability of Queenslanders to properly enjoy our marine environment, be it for fishing, boating or employment opportunities, has not been a priority.

Labor has been more focused on green spin than on taking real practical action to provide infrastructure to both protect our marine environment and biodiversity as well as providing Queenslanders the opportunity to enjoy this world class asset both now and into the future.

The LNP is committed to supporting Queenslanders' ability to enjoy our natural heritage responsibly.

The LNP understands fishing is one of the most popular pastimes in Queensland, with an estimated 750,000 recreational fishers in this state.

In addition, we understand many more Queenslanders enjoy a range of activities on our coastal waters.

Unlike Bligh Labor, an LNP Government will consult widely and continuously with Queenslanders to ensure that their views are heard and acted on, as well as working with responsible environmental advocates.

An LNP Government will establish a $120 million Marine Infrastructure Fund to build new marine infrastructure in areas of greatest need such as boat ramps, pontoons, fishing platforms, artificial reefs or other infrastructure. Maintaining access to Queensland waterways through projects such as targeted channel deepening at Trinity Inlet and the Gold Coast Broadwater will also be funded.

Unlike Labor, which has only provided artificial reefs as inadequate compensation for 'no-fishing' zones and bans on recreational fishing, the LNP sees this Marine Infrastructure Fund as an investment in the future of our marine environment and recreational fishing opportunities.

Boat ramps and fishing platforms improve access for recreational fishing and boating, while appropriate channel deepening can be essential maintenance for our marine environment.

An LNP Government will deliver better infrastructure to allow Queenslanders to enjoy our coastal waterways.

It's time for a change. With your help the LNP will get Queensland Back on Track.

    LNP Policy Commitments:

    • $120 million Marine Infrastructure Fund over four years
    • $50 million for small marine infrastructure such as boat ramps, artificial reefs and pontoons
    • $30 millon to improve access to Gold Coast Waterways
    • $40 millon to improve access to Cairns' Trinity Inlet

    OK.... here's my take.

    1. No real ' nuts and bolts " policy released.... obviously that will come later.

    2. Would have been nice to hear mention of zoning reviews at least.

    3. The 4 dot points are BS... there are only 3 dot points... bit of smoke and mirrors there.

    4. $50mill will get you a bucketload of pontoons and arti's, unless of course, 20% of that is used for " Administration / management "..

    5. It is over 4 years, hence really $30 mill a year total and then what after 4 years ?

Not entirely happy with this " statement ", it is definately not a policy release.

Might be about time Mark Robinson MP, made a statement here on what is doing regards

    RECREATIONAL FISHING,
    Zoning,
    Future management tools,
    Budget for FQ,
    Research,

The Red Lines through the Yellow Zone BS !!!!! ( GSSMP )
Tourism incentives associated with Rec Fishing / Guides / Charters

    and more..................... ??????????

Better come forward with the " nuts and bolts " before March 23 !

    cheers Phill

You have started this thread Mark, so we all hope that a " rec fishing policy " will be released here very , very shortly.

Only 14 sleeps to polling day.

    LP

OH... you said :- Fifty million dollars will go to small marine infrastructure such as boat ramps and fishing pontoons for our recreational fishers and boaties...

What about the artifical reefs mentioned in the original statement ?

and not being pedantic, but... the original statement said " pontoons, fishing platforms ". You have said " fishing pontoons ". Very different objects.

Fishing Platform is a solid structure and a pontoon is a floating structure. Got to be reading from the same book. The message has to be united and consistent.

Yes that doesn't leave long. I am hoping for a decent rec fishing policy between now and then or a vote to Jo Briskey it will be.

Now if the LNP committed to reviewing all green zones using marine biologists who are pro-fishing, if they were going to allow something like the 1 rod per angler as we've heard rumoured, well I for one would never think of giving Jo my vote. Nor would I need to bang on to my friends and neighbours who are also in the Cleveland electorate about the need to send the LNP a strong fishing message by voting for Jo if the LNP don't release a fair rec fising policy soon (already swayed one fellow angler to my way of thinking. I know it's not much but I've only been at it for a few hours).

So I'm in your electorate Mark and I'm with Phill. I would like to see the answers to Phill's questions sometime next week. If you want to represent the people of Cleveland you could do worse than start with some open and honest communication. If you don't have a plan for fixing up the access issue created by the ALP's green zones then I may as well just vote ALP.

Yes Mike, That was looking fantastic and my vote was going to go to the LNP, but now i don't think so. Not sure at this stage what to do, i know I won't be voting for the ALP, they have really screwed this state up well and truely and if they get back in a move interstate might be on the cards. Certainly won't vote for the Greens, I'm too Straight for that and i don't like their policys at all.
Guess I will just have to look at the how to vote card on the day and maybe just maybe i might give Bob K a go, at least he's making the right noises.

This is typical of the bull💩💩💩💩we have been fed from the start all promises and we Re listening to you talk and still no substance . These guys are throwing cash around so it looks like they are doing something for us but they are all being gagged by Cando who is looking shaky in ashgrove ,so what do we end up with I dont know biting know Mark wouldn't get my vote either . I would like to see some answers to the questions above but don't hold your breath ........,thanks for the 🌀🌀🌀🌀Matt

Given that he is going to fail to win in Ashgrove I think we can hearby give Mark our full permission to ignore Can't Do and release the policy immediately.

Re: LNP invests $120 million in boating and fishing infrastructure, deepening waterwa

Also I want to know where the $ are to be spent?
What about increased funding of fisheries to allow them to respond to hotline tip offs and target know areas where illegal fishing activity is known to occur.

I have asked several questions on this forum of Mark and yet to see a response. I will make this simple. I don't want to vote for labor, but if the shadow fisheries minister is unable to answer mine plus the other questions put up on a forum he chooses to use as a political tool, then I will NOT vote for the LNP. Needs to be two way Mark flow here - stand up and prove to us you are worthy of our vote. If you can't give an answer now, then what make us think you will be any different if you get in. I was initally very supportive of you being on this forum. I am starting to doubt that initial opinon.

Re: LNP invests $120 million in boating and fishing infrastructure, deepening waterwa

Well I have got the shits!!
The much hyped release is nothing of any substance and good old Marky-boy is totally in-effective in bringing forth real news.
As much as I want the LNP to win and give Labor the complete rousting it deserves, I can not say I want Mark Robinson as the new fisheries minister. You do not address any problems or enter discussions on them, you do not answer questions fired at you with your convenient absences and you never vow to investigate anything and report back.
With any luck Campbell Newman might scrape through in Ashgrove and become the premier, then he should set to pushing the better candidates to the ministry and removing the deadwood that do not perform adequately to the back bench.
Mark, I believe you are one of the future back benchers hoping for the public life ride and it's perks.

My vote will go to the LNP but it does not endorse you as a minister.
    Jack.

Re: LNP invests $120 million in boating and fishing infrastructure, deepening waterwa

What's wrong with Campbell Newman? Has he no political street-smarts at all?....

"Asked if he would prefer Lawrence Springborg, Tim Nicholls or Jeff Seeney in charge, Mr Newman said it wasn't up to him.

"I won't be there, that's something they'll have to decide," he said.

Mr Newman said he would walk away from politics if he didn't win Ashgrove, and he said he did not believe the LNP would win power if Labor rival Kate Jones won the inner Brisbane seat."

    Source: http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/q...-1226295640736

You wouldn't bother voting for him now because you would know that it would be a wasted vote. He has already surrendered!

Gee whizz! When the going gets tough, the tough get going, Campbell. Didn't anyone ever teach you that? He sure ain't walking in the shadow of Sir Joh nor Anna nor any of the toughies in Qld politics.

In the light of this surrender, any statement of an LNP fishing policy seems pointless.

I would like to think that the party make the policies and not Can't Do personally, so I don't know that I agree with the pointless comment. But you're spot on the money with your other points. Looks like teddys out of the cot.

Re: LNP invests $120 million in boating and fishing infrastructure, deepening waterwa

So he has gone from Can Do to maybe not.

Seriously he will be shoe horned into another seat without a doubt by the unelected decision makers of the party, just the same way he got his start in the first place.

The way he was given the leadership clearly implies there is no other talent within the party, sorry Mark buddy but this includes you also as you to were overlooked at the time.
