    Queensland snapper closure.

Hey Guys, just recieved this in the mail along with promo posters and the rest of it from EEDI (fisheries)..
A "Rocky Reef Fin Fish" Closure is now in place affecting snapper, pearl perch and teraglin.

    In their words,
" Snapper is overfished in queensland. For this reason, fisheries queensland, a service of the DEEDI is reveiwing management arrangements for the rocky reef fin fish fishery with a regulatory Impact Statement. (RIS). the RIS outlines options for managing this fishery in the future and has been released for puplic comment"

    Snapper closure.
To help protect the snapper stock while the reveiw is being conducted, an interim six-week closure has been put in place. The interim six week closure applies to ALL Queensland east coast waters from 15th FEB 2011 until 31st March 2011.
During this time, snapper will be off limits to all recreational, charter and commercial fishers and should not be targeted. to effectively reduce fishing pressure, the closure also applies to the other main co-caught species of pearl perch and teraglin.

ROCKY REEF FIN FISH FISHERY REVEIW
Fisheries queensland is reveiwing all fishing rules for the rocky reef fin fish fishery to ensure the long term sustainability of the states stock of snapper and other species. as such, a range of proposals affecting all fishing sectors have been released for public response.

Feedback can be provided through the consultation response form or at one of the information sessions to be held at locations between southport and Mackay.
Dates times and venues for these meetings are included in the RIS and response form.
The RIS, response form and information session details can be accessed online at
    www.fisheries.qld.gov.au or by calling 13 25 23.

    just spreading the word.

mate from pba said they have only given 3 monthly trophys over the last 11 years for march, due to wind restricting fishing etc, they have not closed the most productive fishing times, make you wonder why, what is the hidden agenda, and being government, there is a method in their madness

It is so they can charge you for a fishing licence to target snapper which in they claim will generate $810,000 per year so that they can hire more staff to patrol. Having worked in government finances I reckon this will put on 5 new staff and that probably precludes any overtime. Not much of an increase but a hell of a lot of inconvenience for the bulk of us.
