So if surveys are so damned important why is it that groups like Eco, Sunfish, etc not being asked to survey their members?? seems they have a ready made base of " Real " rec fisho's available allready to guage their figures on.... Seems to me it would be far more accurate than what is being done... Dosn't however fix the trust issue.

I find it interesting that government deliberately creates a whole fringing industry around Anglers, from Government, NGOs, CRCs, authorities..... all with people pulling a wage or a portion of their wage from Anglers (hold a legislated finger in the Anglers pie).

This fringing industry has all grades of lawful rights applied to it yet the actual angler has next to none, no competent stakeholder voice or choice.

All of these created industry's hold only one true purpose in common, the need to further propagate and maintain an income from Anglers.

Hence we constantly have new work being invented and when completed it must be justified at some level, bested as further new regulation (even more new work).

Over 20 years very very little legislation directed onto Anglers has made a difference the fish would notice...but there has been a lots of new work invented and applied under law.

Problem now is they have 'been paid' into a bit of a wall, all of the easy fishery's management con jobs applied toward the general ignorance (understandably) of the average angler has already been had!

Work must continue, income must continue, interesting times ahead as there is not much left to 'do' that cannot be more easily recognised by the average angler for the con it is 9 times out of 10.

    cheers fnq

The surveys will be conducted and information collated via Morgan Research not Fisheries themselves. I agree it is hard to build trust when the base is so low; but if we don't have science processes in place then it is hard to argue decisions are not science based if we don't participate. There is nothing to say if we can dig up the funding we can't or won't do something similar just to have a comparison model - but the words funding is the key one here.

I have reinforced to Dr Taylor and his management that rec fisherman are not trusting of Government surveys and as Andy said, we are talking with them in this process to gain an understanding of what they are planning on doing, and more importantly how they are gathering and interpreting the data. Maybe this transparency can be the start of breaking down some of the barriers between us. Time will tell.

We'll be in a position to talk more on this in the coming weeks.
    Cheers,
    Chris
