    Sri-Lankan Shark Recipe

    Greetings all!

    Once had a Sri-Lankan girlfriend.............

Very tasty....as was the food I ate with the young lady and her family.

I'm interested in cooking and have a recipe from a new cookbook.

'Recipes of the Jaffna Tamils' Nesa Eliezer.

    Shark Varai

    • 250g Shark or Flake fillet.
    • 1 cup grated (unsweetened) dessicated coconut.
    • ¼ tsp turmeric powder.
    • ¼ tsp ground black pepper.
    • 1 tsp cumin powder.
    • 1 tsp salt.
    • ¼ tsp chilli powder.
    • 2tbsp vegetable oil.
    • 1 large onion, chopped.
    • 1-4 dried red chillies.
    • ½ tsp black mustard seeds.
    • 1 sprig curry leaves.

      • Poach the shark meat in a little salted water and let cool.
      • Shred the shark into small pieces and add the coconut, turmeric, pepper, cumin, salt and chilli.
      • Fry the onions until transparent.
      • Add chillies, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
      • Stir for 2-3 minutes.
      • Add the shark mixture and heat over a low flame until all is warmed through.

    Regards, Rob.

Sounds like a traditional Sri Lankan curry to me. Bloody lovely and similar to the ones my Sri Lankan cricketing friends used to cook when they stayed here many years ago. Thanks for reminding me....will give it a go in the near future. Probably use it for a MIL fish capture.

I read the name of the thread and my first thought was where will I catch a Sri Lankan shark.
