Thread: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

    Re: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

DRAFT plans from the Gov. (EPA) don't tend to change much once released.
They will all be attending XMAS parties or sitting on their hands now till next year.
You will still be able to fish off a jetty? , gee thanks, only problem is I have only ever caught toadies off jetties.
One of those proposed green zones looks like it is sitting on top of HA Artifical reef. Surely they can't put a green zone on an artifical reef.
This would have cost us tax payers millions to set up, what ever happened to "If it aint broke, don't fix it".

For those that don't already know.

The rec and com fishery is NOT......... let me repeat this NOT in any danger, is NOT over fished and IS sustainable. These are not my opinions or guesses, these are the FACTS from DPI&F. The DPI&F are the fishery managers of the bay and they are the ones that know what is going on. But will the EPA listen to them ///?? of course not.

Further, the EPA have NO, repeat again NO evidence to support fishing closures, and in fact.. that's FACT..... their own scientist's report conducted on the Bay confirms that ' pollution ' is the problem with the bay... in his indepth and expensive report, the fishery , both rec and com, was not only not mentioned, but was deafening by it's absence.

Anna Blighs Ministery of Lies is on track to bare the brunt of some serious media attention very soon.

If anyone here can provide me or others with evidence of Moreton bay's fishery being in danger, please post it up ..........

    Phil & Co

Has anyone thought of getting someone (or a few) high profile people involved that would get us instant media coverage?! Here's a couple of identities that love their fishing and i'm sure would be as passionate as us about the issues facing us all:

    Matt Hayden (Aus)
    Andy Symonds (Aus)
    Andy Bichel (Bulls)
    Robbie Copeland (Lions)
    Jarred Brennan (Lions)

Tell me some of those blokes wouldn't attract some attention if they helped us out?!

    Re: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

I think that's the idea T1, but i don't think those names mentioned above are high profile at all - i don't even know who the last two are! we need to find people who are well known to the MAJORITY, not just specific sport followers. great idea though, just trying to think of genuinely 'famous' people who would bat for us...it's a stretch. some big name actors would be the go, though i dunno if any of them would be willing to push against the left. but they're the heights we need to aim for, BIG names whose message can access a great many people, not just a certain demographic and gender..

    Re: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

The rally has been re-scheduled due to many other parties wishing to be involved.

The date will be Saturday 15th December and all other details will remain the same. Those details will be released tomorrow arvo/ evening.

The high profile people ARE getting involved. Those people will be revealed as time goes by as to not alert the ............. others ( sick of mentioning their name. )

To that end, sure, high profile people do assist, but to my way of thinking, having many constituents approach a local member of parliament with their concerns, putting names to letters and emails and other forms of personal protest will go far to turn the tide of green. Don't believe for one minute that people power cannot win out...............

Another way to have a protest is to go to the ' others ' website and see who have endorsed their agenda. Email those people with the facts.

    Re: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

    Hi Guys,

As Phill pointed out, due to involvement of some other groups, we have rescheduled until the 15th to give time to get them involved, and get an extra week for promotion.

It is an "all points" rally aimed to get fishos from all parts of Greater Brisbane area & the South East to come along. So we encourage you to spread the word and get boaties, those that go on a mates boat and even those that want to own a boat to come along. We need hundreds of boats & cars there to make a decent show and put these beaureucrats on notice that if they want to take us on, they will have one hell of a mess on their hands.

We need to back this up with people writing to their local State member, actually lob on their doorstep for a meeting with a group of you and voice your concerns. Phill already has placed some information on this in another thread called "Moreton Bay needs your help". Get active and get involved.

    Thanks
    Chris

    Re: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

Details on rally points to come very soon.

Permits etc have been put into the system under the AFLP name to give a group name to this. It is designed to be an all encompassing rally regardless of who your support pollitically as this is above all that.

This is very personal and we are all pissed off with what these "public representatives" are doing. That is the main driver here and this is the way I am approaching it - its personal to me, it is personal to you and we need to get together under the banner of "Moreton Bay Fisherman" first and foremost and show this lot we are here to take them to task.

Flyers etc are being put together and a copy I will put up here as soon as I can so you can download it, print some out and take to your local dealer, tackleshop etc to promote this.

    Cheers,

    Re: Moreton Bay Boat Rally

So what is the general breakdown of events during the day??

Last time we all got into the city and then nothing...nobody knew anything and we ran out of road then we all went home.
Most people in the city probably thought how can all these people with boats get lost and end up here.
It would have been better having a mass rally on the water at say Wello Pt or along the pier at Scarborough or motoring up the river and having a mass fish outside parliament house

Is this going to be another long drive into the city then a drive home or is there going to be something happening in the city??
Is there going to be a Police escort and people on traffic lights as last time the convoy was spread out along a 30km span due to the traffic lights and definitely lost it's impact??
IMO the rally at the ramps was good...the trip into the city was a nightmare trying to stay in a group and when we got the city I reckon one or two in a hundred of the people there knew what was happening and why all these boats were going through the city.

Good, no excellent, idea having a rally but practicalities have to be worked out so everyone knows what the go is so the impact can be maximised.

And if we had any understanding of how reef fish larvae find a reef to inhabit, then we would perhaps be more sympathetic of the measures being taken. I for one support the too late measures that are being implemented.

    Lindsay Dines
    Lindsay,
I admire the stance you have taken but your argument is ludicrous because out of all the factors that affect fish stocks, the modern recreational fisherman would do the least damage...i worked on a 78 foot trawler in Bass Strait for 4 years and we were responsible for more habitat loss and damage to fish stocks due to bycatch in one tow than i have been able to perpetrate in 30 years as an avid rec fisho.
Look at Botany Bay and Sydney Harbour if you want actual evidence of the massive improvements that can be achieved when steps are taken to target the real problems. Since Botany Bay was closed to commercial fishing, the fishing has improved immensely, areas that were once barren now produce greater varieties and numbers of fish.... the sea grass is growing back in areas that had been scalped by trawler activity...Sydney Harbour now fishes better than it ever has due to the moving of the effluent outlets from Bondi and Manly to 6kms offshore....oceanic species that were swimming around the mouth of the harbour have returned and it is not uncommon to hear reports of Marlin, Dolphins and Whales within the harbour itself.....it was funds from the NSW rec fishing licence and smart decisions by anglers themselves which allowed this to happen....the ocean outlets was a decision bought about because the silvertails in the most affluent suburbs of Sydney got tired of swimming in their own crap...a politically motivated decision which was made with little environmental consideration....where were the greenies when these decisions were being made....i fished both areas before and after these events and anyone else who has will back me up on this statement....
I agree that rec fisherman do have an environmental impact as all do who use the bay...all i can say is the immediate improvements experienced by habitat improvements and restricted commercial pressure in other waterways are no coincidence and it was interesting how you used these as a throwaway line in your statement....fishermen have been proactive in improving their practices to protect the environment and fish stocks and i for one would be happy to pay money for a fishing licence if it meant that fisherman could make decisions on the future of their fisheries...at least i could rest knowing i haven't wasted good govt money on measures that will have little tangible benefit on fish stocks....this will be obvious in a few years when catch results will show little benefit of the closures....but hey by then you will be able to blame someone or something else....
