  2. Check Your EPIRB's Expiry Date and save a few dollars...

Recently I was talking to a client who had an old GME M400 and found that his AMSA registration expiry label date was a year ahead of the EPIRB expiry date. How AMSA go that one wrong, he had no idea why that had happened, but for safety sake and operational reliability, he decided it replace it with a KTI Safety Alert EPIRB... why? because it had a battery expiry of October 2025 and he reasoned that by the time replacement was due, it would not be worth mucking around with battery replacement. ...
  3. Is your beacon (EPIRB) registration sticker due to expire?

by , 25-04-2014 at 05:32 PM (SKIPPERSMATE - mates looking after mates)
It's coming on to 5+ years since the change over of the old analogue to digital 406MHz EPIRBs were introduced into Australia, so there are two things to keep in mind.

One, the battery expiry date - is it current and if not dispose the EPIRB at Battery World and get a new one or get the battery replaced.
Two, check your registration sticker and get the information on AMSA's database updated - it's FREE. Register here

  4. GPS vs non-GPS

In summary the answer is simple... GPS. Just ask yourself as the skipper - How long do you want your crew and kids floating in the water wanting to found.
