The predominantly winter species of tailor, bream, sweetlip and squire are dominating catches in the bay although this transition period between summer and winter can be a difficult time to find any numbers of fish.
Anthony Wishey pulled bream to 40cm from the shallows around Mud Island on Saturday night and there have been a few squire and sweetlip caught from the same area.
There has also been the odd snapper caught from deeper water around Mud Island, on the Spoil Ground and on the eastern side of Green Island.
Brian Webb caught a good feed of sweetlip from the Rous Channel on Sunday morning with the best fish measuring 50cm.
There were also some chopper tailor in the area taking a floating bait with daylight and dusk their prime feeding time.
It’s been a similar story in the southern bay with small squire, sweetlip and quality bream down the eastern side of Coochiemudlo Island and at Patts Point off the northern tip of Macleay Island.
The sand banks right throughout the bay are holding good numbers of diver whiting and there has been a great run of sand crabs in the bay over the past few weeks.
Pick of the spots for a feed of sandies has been between Dunwich and Deanbilla Bay down the western side of North Stradbroke.
On the offshore scene, there has been the occasional break in weather allowing anglers to wet a line however last weekend there was a strong current running which made catching a feed difficult.
The shallow grounds off Moreton produced a feed for the bottom bait-fishing anglers and there were good numbers of pelagic species caught off Point Lookout by anglers trolling bait and berleying.
At Jumpinpin the bream season is not in full swing yet, but there have been a few good fish caught along Kalinga Bank and off the eastern end of Crusoe Island at the Mud Clumps.
Whiting numbers are dropping off, but by working the run out tide around Squire Island a feed can still be caught.
Pan size flathead are taking lures and drifted baits around the power line, the mouth of the Logan and around the moored boats off Rudi Maas Marina.

PS - Jacks are getting hard to find as the water temp drops.

What is the name of that lure again...
