With the predicted dropping winds occuring after the reef closures, I decided to head out Wednesday night with a mate from work. Scuttlebut had motivated me with pictures of huge reds, so JT & I headed wide into a 15 knot SE slop.

2 hrs later and we were next to the shelf. 1st drop and JT gets smashed and calls it for a shark.....

Nearly....

:o :o :o

It's the 1st Dogtooth either of us had seen alive and JT curses us by saying his night is fulfilled.

The sounder shows plenty of fish over some great country but nothing is interested except a Bass and a cod. An hour of sounding around and we find a small bump...
New species number 2...

Those sweetlip pull in 200 feet of water but that Dogtooth was a rocket. The largest sweetlip went 78cm and the dog just under a metre. Arms are sore today!!! ;D

Beefa,

Yes Rod Stanley it is...who's that? (The only beefa I know is from many, many years ago!)

The arms and back are very sore today....

We only landed the one Ausfish. Plenty of larger one's smacked into the side of the boat though. It would have been very difficully so fillet so we baked it whole.

The secret is going out on a very dark night. Very freaky being out 55k's in complete darkness. Drifted out over the edge into 450 feet and got the creeps only being in a 5m tinny. Glad to see the moon come up a 2am.
