got my new gps/sounder installed on thursday so thought id get a mark and head to a wreck near double island. when i got there it was about 11am sun up and water clearity was about 20meters. after cubing for about 20min i saw a few gt's and a cobia grabbing the chopped pillies but was stearing clear of my pillie with the hook in it. i figured they cant be that smart! but decided to down size in hook and hide it better in the pillie .sure enough got a couple of gt,s for my efforts. headed home 2pm. the pictures were taken by my 5yr old daughter

thanks guys. if i had more time i woulda gone to the shelf bazzaman but only had a few hours and thats about the best spot close by. iam into the palegic fish at the moment. dont fancy scull dragging reef fish with 400lb hand lines like some ;D.
its out with the fly rod next. couldnt imagine what a fight one of those trevally will give on a fly rod.
just a matter of interest what sort wreck is the 2nd one out from double island?

Daniel, that second wreck is an old pro boat, I heard it's a trawler. It's covered in mono net which will steal your anchor if you're not careful. I'm not sure whether it was sunk with the net on board, or if it's from pro's running their nets right in close down the side of it in the mackeral season (I've been there when they've done this). I've had to motor off the wreck a couple of times and torn off big chunks of netting in the process. Also lost a couple of picks there. Plenty of fish though once you get it sussed.

cheers,

steve

Hi bluedog here well done on the fish and well done to the photographer. I have a two year old and cant wait to take her out side for a fish all she has to do first is be able to swim by herself and body surf in case something goes wrong. Q How did you decide she was ready to go fishing with you

hi bluedog. my daughter can swim .but depends on the weather too. she always has her life jacket on while we are in motion. then if its a calm day when anchored i allow her to take it off.
i have a 20month old boy he comes sometimes, but needs 2 adults and he has to wear his jacket the whole time.unless we are on an island or cay.

Good fishing report Daniel. We also went to Double and Scout Island last weekend, but we only have a 3.9m Tinny and the white caps appeared, so we headed back to Yorkeys(cliff face)and dropped a line there. We have never been to the wreck, but do not have GPS. We live at Clifton Beach and either go out a short way in the boat, or fish from Palm Cove Pier. Great Salmon fishing there. As you know, the wind ruins boating and most fishing.
