What's the best time of the year to plan a trip to target the goldens on the flats inside Fraser Is.??? Thinking of basing myself at Inskip and running up the inside for a bit of prospecting - it's a bit daunting being such a huge area.

I believe they are present all year, but the best numbers turn up from Dec-March. By the way, the goldens can also be caught on live bait from the beach at Inskip (or a boat anchored just off the beach). Great camping spot too!

I prefer to base myself out of Urangan, Hervey Bay to chase Golden Trevally.

There are a lot of flats within easy reach of the excellent ramp.

The fishing for goldens is some of the best sightfishing I've every done. They are not easy, but it is awesome seeing these great fish in knee deep crystal clear water wth their tails waving in the air.

I can't wait for summer to get another shot at them.

I'd gather by that they're only available through summer. Gunna be pretty hectic with the goldens up there and the longtails down - BRING IT ON SUMMER!

I'll get some respite in Sept on some of the BIG goldens at Hinchinbrook - lost one at the boat there last year that was just too big for huge barra net (I estiamte 10kg +) It hung over each end by at least 30cm. It gave me heaps of stick on the baitcast gear, so lookin' forward to tangling with them on the wand. http://www.ausfish.com.au/chat/images/smilies/cwm11.gif

I would just like to verify that that the fish that "jack "lost up at hinchinbrook was easy ten kilos and was WAY too big for the net as i was the one holding on to the net at the time.

pretty shitty feeling having the handle of the net spin in your hand while you watch your mates ten kilo+ golden which was arguably the best fish of the trip dissapear back into the water mouth open and laughing at me http://www.ausfish.com.au/chat/images/smilies/cwm36.gif
