Greetings,

Is there a best fly for the carp? or is it a selection? (like bread fly, nyphm. etc)

I am thinking of going and having abit of a flick around for them in the new year. Any info would be great!

Rosso.

Good afternoon Rosso,
The wonderful Carp.
Best fly by far is a 300wm.

Care should be taken when using this fly because the back cast is not suitable for 'new' casters.
This fly has the following advantages:-
Reaches deep.
Close is good enough.
Cleans the catch.
Removes the remaining parts of the catch onto the stream bank.
If there are a couple of loving Carp together you can catch both with a single cast.
And only comes in one colour.

Kind regards
Uncle Barry

I believe you are a bit undergunned there Barry, a 300 Win Magnum might be fine in piddling holes but in rivers I suggest about half a ton of Amfo, or Semtex. Cheers Max

Hi Rosso,

I banged a few carp on the melon on the weekend. The flies I usually go for are woolly buggers, either bead head or with bead chain eyes attached to get the fly down quicker.

Colours..... olive, black and red, purple and salmon, basically anything that will attract their attention at close quarters.

I usually sight cast to them, and watch them turn and suck the fly in with their big rubber lips.....let the fun begin!

Enjoy
