View Full Version : Kayak and Canoe options

After many years in powerboats from runabouts to diesel cruisers, my wife and I have decided on the smaller more convenient option of kayak or canoe.
Think we would prefer poly because of the weight factor in roof topping, we need good stability, and despite the benefits of the Hobie paddle system, a double paddle will probably be better on our pocket.
After reading many postings in ausfish in recent months, I probably have a leaning towards sit-on-top, rather than a sit in craft, however am openminded enough to listen to any case in either direction.
Our home waters are the southern end of the Broadwater, GC, maybe the Bay inshore and dams.
Total novice at this sort of angling and the pros and cons of the various small craft would be appreciated by experienced users, and with good advice will probably meet on the water sometime.

Cheers Richo

Yeah Richo, they are not cheap. Try these guys http://members.optusnet.com.au/aus-kayak-fishing/index.html for a bit of general info.
And this thread http://www.ausfish.com.au/cgi-ausfish/yabb2/YaBB.cgi?num=1129096900 for my comments.
Also http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/default.asp is a good source with discussion about different models.

Make sure whatever you get has rod holders, place for the esky, dry stowage areas, and good stability. Mind you they can feel very UNstable until you get used to it, but then its like riding a bike.

Whatever you end up with you will love it Im sure.
Cheers,
Jake

Jake

Thanks for the detail you posted have just had a quick glance at each and will look at length in next day or two.

Your posting was not new as Ive been reading your stuff for most of my time in ausfish and other blokes who are obvious kayakers.

In due course will send an email for opinions of my decisions.

At this early stage interested in VikingTempo standard, and Australis Squid

Thanks mate
Richo
