Does anyone out there fish for golden perch in inland North Queensland? I need to catch some broodstock for some research work that I am doing and want the Lake Eyre drainage strain. This drainage extends to around Hughenden, but I would like some direction for reliable spots around that area to catch them.

Cheers,
Leo

The only NQ Goldens I've fished for in NQ for are in the Burdekin River and are Fitzroy (&MDB?) strain - though I have met locals in Torrens Creek who used to travel about ~100 miles downstream from the township on the Torrens Creek drainage and catch large catches of big Goldens in that system which were inland drainage (Cooper Ck) strain - you can also access that strain of fish in the Darr River adjacent Longreach. If you want the most northern version of the Lake Eyre Drainage Goldens I'd suggest the Georgina River out at Djarra near Mt Isa.

Best bet would be the Thompson at Longreach, or have a look in the Barcoo.

Those rivers flow into Lake Eyre, and are known for yellas, although I've only caught silvers on the Thompson.

Good luck.
