I am interested if anyone has external speakers on the radio's.
As i am getting older i think deafness is setting in {selective hearing}. If so what brands are good ;D

HEY SPIRO! IS THIS LOUD ENOUGH?

I USED TO HAVE ONE ON A GME RADIO AS THE UNIT WAS MOUNTED UNDER THE CONSOLE. I PICKED UP A GME SPEAKER FOR ABOUT $15 FROM BIAS. IT WORKED WELL EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T WATERPROOF.

Bit hard to hear when your reel is screaming off all the time with knobbies. ;D

I got a GME external speaker for my Icom VHF due to where it is mounted. Works a treat, nice n loud.

I've got just the little GME external speaker on my VHF and it works well. Not neded all the time but it is better when not near the radio.

I had a small 2inch speaker that I mounted to great effect, finally replaced it with a new $15 job from whitworths which sounds like what others have. I have found the top end response to be quite prominant so that hiss and noise while I'm running the engine becomes an issue. The volume is fine and once I switch off the engine its clear enough. Certainly better than the built in unit. I might have to install a filter on the power to the radio to ensure the top end hiss and crackle does not overpower reception.
For $15 its certainly worth a shot mate.
