Hey all,

Caught my first Black Jewie last Sunday, ended up with 6 in total. Between the 3 of us on board we caught 21 in just under 2 hours. All were caught on squid baits(frozen) and in 15ft of water at a spot near Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The biggest one weighed went 16kg. We kept 8 and tagged and released the rest. Also managed my biggest Golden Snapper which weighed in at 7kg. All caught on a TLD15 spooled with 15kg mono,100lb leader on a Fenwick 15kg rod. Thought I'd post some pics for you to all enjoy. And yes, we were in open water, just look at how rough it was... NOT. ;D

Went out to the same spot again yesterday (25.05.03) and caught another 13 jewies between the 4 of us, including one of the ones we tagged last weekend. The biggest was 24 kg, smallest around 12 kg. Also bagged a nice salmon.

Is the boat you are fishing from a 6.2 Kevlacat? I have a mate that has the 5.2 but there aren't any outstanding choices in 4 stroke motors for motors in the 60-70 hp range with ultra long legs which aren't Bigfoots. Are they the 80,100 or 115 Yammies?

Great catch there mate....just a tip; if you use the camera flash during the day
we will be able to see faces....the hat casts a shadow.
Cheers Brent ;)

Smithy, Not sure on the details of the boat, it was my first and second trips out on it and I was too busy catching fish to take much notice. ;D I'll find out and get back to you though.

Aquarius, thanks for the tip. I just bought the camera and am still working out how to use it. I'll try the flash trick next time. Hopefully this weekend if Huey and Neptune are kind to me. ;)

Cheers,

Dan.

It's actually a 6.4 Kevlacat with 100's.
