to get down VU only . you just need DV transducer. and update the software to version 3.4

moose -how does the echomap 70dv compare with the 751xs?. i.e if buying whole side vue setup from scratch which would be the better way to go? (suspect there'll be a price differential?). will be going this setup when i upgrade. does the 201dv come with transducer for that price?

then yeah the 751xs is a far worth while unit. just for the CHIRP sake a lone. all the other connectivity aspects. radar, nmea2k and such yeah thats all well and good if you dont ue it no biggy. but with a tm150 transducer and the side vu "clear vu" they are dynamite.

however... if your just staying small time recreatinal. and just in your shallower waters. than the echomp70dv with the HDID sonar (77/200) is plenty good enough. for the dollars if you want to go maximum screens and tech. id go a echomap70DC with a humminbird 698si. then you get 77/200 plus 455/800 down vision. plus 5" humminbird side imaging/down imaging (very good) and humminbird switchfire (time variable gain sonar) also very good.... but thats just my opinion :P
