Get the inner race out of a bearing that just fits your finger or buy an eggbeater

Make sure you have lots of band aids. Don't ever let it wrap around anything attached to you!

When you are winding in, rotate the rod/reel from L to R & back continuously. This will help lay the braid down more evenly.

big zip tie round the rod and the line , should be able to wind and use the other thumb to roll the zip tie left to right to lay it even ;D

I have one of these that i never used as I don't fish big overheads. Took it out of the pack to see if it would work on the finger, it does. If you get up to the southside of Brisbane & want to take a look at it, give me a PM..I want $15..

Bike inner tube is good an cheap.

You could also try one of these, they are designed for the thumb though, not the index finger, but a small one might be ok.

Most of the thumb guards are designed for mono, be interesting to see how they handle true braid and other so called braids/fused braids.

I wouldnt bother with braid on an alvey, and thats one BIG reason.

Mate, I reckon its a disaster in the making. I can see major line twist knots, significant line cuts and the chance of some serious injury. Overhead or spin reels are the better option for braid in the surf.

you should have no problems if you are just laying the line on as you are only pushing from side to side but if you are trying to hold it with any preasure than you will be in trouble. I have braid on a 925,825bvc and a 625bvc used for bottom bashing I dont use them anymore but I did for a while never had a problem. biggest fish on an avley was a 22kg GT no problems
