Took my kayak out today for the first time in ages and hit a creek at the top end of the passage to try my luck with the Jacks.
Ended up getting 2 for the day, 1 at 19cm which was my first ever Mangrove Jack and then a bit later I got my second and it went 37cm. Both were caught on the same sx48.
Cheers
Kev.

Mate what leader are you using???
I have lost 3 sx48's up there lately along with a couple of other lures.
A couple of big flatties have got me, but there has been a couple of blinding runs that have ended before I got my hands on the rod.
It is my training ground for yak fishing.

It is my training ground for yak fishing.
I was using a 20lb yamtoyo flourocarbon leader with 10lb crystal fireline fished over 2-5kg rack raider with a shimano twinpower 2500. Luckily the bigger fish followed the lure out of the snag and ended up taking it right beside the yak in clear water as I was about to lift the lure from the water and recast. I had the drag cranked up tight so he couldn't get too far but he still give it a good shot. If he had hit it at the snag there is every chance that he may have found home. The little fella unfortunately didn't have much of a chance, I saw him come from his snag and hit the hit the lure on the first crank of the handle and I was that amped up at that sight that I don't think he even hit the water again until I released him ;D .
Forgot to say that both were released.
