I don't know if this would work or be supported but if Ausfish had a section setup where you could enter serial numbers and information of all your electronic equipment onto a data base so if it was stolen or you where buying second hand equipment you could go onto this data base and look it up to see if it was stolen or the person selling it was the correct person?

If it was publically accessable it might give thieves valid numbers to restamp stuff with. Doing a database could leave you more accessable to a smart thief if he works out where you live or where your boat is stored as he could target specific items.

Many of the home accounting packages or special insurance programs have a section for entering all your credit cards , lic details and serial numbers into a database to print out or save. One (can't remember the name but the datadot website used to be good) had a scanned image and photo attachment ability to attach warranty and receipt scans and also a calander that showed warranty left , expired and so on for all the stuff in your house. You could do antiques and attache valuations and so on and just keep a copy in a safe or with your accountant / will.

Do a google of insurance and goods databases for home contents insurance and you'll find something.

Marking your goods by engraving your state and driv lic number and also a secret mark photographed will at least give police a chance of convicting thieves if the goods are recovered after a theft. It will also make insurance clams easier as you can prove ownership and that you were taking due care etc etc.

Datadot like they are using on new cars is also a very good option and they do special marine packages and will ink your engine serial number or hll number to all goods.
