Yeah its not so much of the by-law but your responsibilities as the master of the ship, you don't have enough stuff then you aren't operating you vehicle in a safe manner etc..... So better to cover the safety requirements rather than the by law requirements... i.e Better to be safe than sorry :)

One that a lot of people tend to forget is drinking water (but you haven't). I believe it is 2 litre per person per day. I always use soft drink bottles filled with water and frozen for the esky. That way I am always covered if I ever forget. The patrol boys will sting you for this just as quickly as not having the more obvious safety gear.

Medical kit -recomended - amazed how many time we have used bandages etc etc over the years. Knife, spare anchor, spare batteries. seasick pills and common sense.

Most important one it to tell soemone where you are going and when you will be back and who else you are with.

have a look at QLD maritime site for requirements for your size of boat and where you use it.

capacity label........ you bet they will zip you for this one... and it must be in plain view from the steering position.

manual propulsion for boats under 5M
If your boat has places for rowlocks it should be oars and the correct size.
so says the book.

cheers

I got a warning, not for not having the nav lights, but was driving a 5m centre console. The All round white light was obscured from directly behind apparently by my head..... (It was factory mounted about 4" above the screen).

They said the rules say viewable from 360 degrees... and it does...

He left me off with a warning, so I wasnt going to argue that the <5 deg obscured from end on by my head at 6'4" tall was a problem or not.... I would have thought the general glow would do... but no......
