My garmin 172c colour chart plotter which is still under warranty, Keeps
turning it's self off when I am out on the water.
I have changed power supply and checked wiring all this seems ok.
Seems to go ok at slow speeds but once up on the plane and in rougher
conditions it seem to fail. Has anyone else had similar problems.
Thanks Barney Rubble

Hi Barney,
if you are confident the power supply s good then send it back. My guess is still a power supply problem. What sort of inline fuse setup are you using. Could be worth direct wiring the GPS for a trip to see if that helps. The inline fuse that comes with the unit is sufficient so I would hard wire it to a battery to see if that helps. Otherwise send it back.
Is this unit from O/S if so PM me for service details, just been thru this with my Garmin 525:(

Cheers Gary,
I still have the inline fuse that came with the
unit, it appears ok. I bought the unit from sundown marine
I have taken it back too them,i was just wondering if anyone had the same problem. Next time i will hard wire it.
Thanks Barney

I would suggest before you send it away connect a digital multimeter to the insput and set it to 'min recording' If the power supply is intermittantly dropping out, this will pick it up

Check the pins (male and Femlale) on the connection to the unit. I had a similar problem and it was just a little bit of corrosion in the connection.
