homemade houseboat falls over!

On saturday night a homemade houseboat a guy built in his backyard flipped over at mission point in the bribie passage. It looked like a pontoon with a cabover looking camper unit from a small truck bolted on,painted in cammo colours complete with observation deck on top and apparantly even a slipperydip from top off the back. They launched it off a trailer at donnybrook after tyring for a considerable amount time apparantly they reversed down the ramp and just braked heavily to get it off.(I wasnt there but have been told by a few locals)
They then motored off ater dark with no nav lights!!
We went over for a look on sunday arvo and they were using a hand winch to pill it up to the mangroves just north of mission point beach,it was flipped upside down the only thing stopping it from being totally upside down was the railing on the top hit the bottom and held it at an angle,I didnt have my camera and only got pics on my phone and cant load them on here.
Not sure it they have got it moved yet.
Could have been a lot worse apparently kids were asleep onboard when it flipped(Only been told that didnt see for myself)

Cheers Craig

Re: homemade houseboat falls over!

Don't they have regulations for this sort of floating palace stuff or can you just float anything?

Maybe he just forgot the plug

Hope all are well

Re: homemade houseboat falls over!

I've been watching the D'bay one being built over the past couple of years, every time i drove past. Even saw a Hobycat thingy bolted to the front once. Very interesting. Sad to hear it went belly-up.

G'day

Small sailing catamaran, trampoline in the middle. Somewhere between 12 and 18', google HobiCat. A hell of a lot of cheap fun.

All the resorts use them or similar for guest activities, similar to the calypso range.

Re: homemade houseboat falls over!

So did this thing have a motor on it or was it just towed around with a cat?
