How can you tell the differences between yakkas, slimeys and yellow tail?
Duck
I know this was raised a few years ago, but just a reminder to those who are unaware, in Qld there is a possession limit of 20 for yakka.
A mate was boarded by fisheries this week, and reminded of that limit. I believe there is still no limit for slimeys. No complaints about the fisheries, just doing their job, but this bag limit isn't that easy to find in the rule book.
If you have trouble finding this in the rules (on the net), look under Trevallies, and click on one, say Golden Trevally, and in the blurb it mentions a combined possession limit of 20 for members of the Carangidae family, including scads (yakkas).
20 is not a lot if chasing Spanish, but schoolies or spotties are around. Some days slimeys are not easy to find as an option.

Yakkas are yellowtail. Slimies are blue and silver, with a hint of green, no yellow tail.

What might be old hat to some is new to others for many and varied possible reasons. Some people don't fish live baits, just purchase from store, doesn't mean they don't know how to fish, it could be that their new to fishing, or just seeking a clarification etc, etc. I bet their are blokes on here that have questions that they want to ask be they boating, motor related, fishing, or whatever who won't ask for fear of being typecast as some sort of dope. If fisheries put pictures up on their website under "live baits" most commonly caught in SEQ with bag limits it would be helpful to many.
