That sounds like a good idea.. I will take it for a test drive and if all is good, tell them what I want and if they dont come to the party, I'll ring around. I guess the thats ANOTHER thing the internet is good for.
There are only two moments in time.... There's now, and there's too late.

I had the 2006 3 lyric and it went fine for the 60,000 kms I had it. Only issue with the 3 ltr was the turbos let go around 175,000 kms. We had four at work and three blew turbos at the same kms. Mine was too new buy oil was leaking from the turbo when I sold it. Otherwise the rest of the truck was bullet proof.

Seeing as you are looking at the 2.5 then you prob can't go wrong. Just watch the seats and ride quality. Got on my nerves all the time.

I now pilot an 2009 patrol auto, considering how old it's origins are, it's a limo in comparison and a weapon off road. Haven't looked back but miss my ute.

Pipifin - I bought a demo 2004/2005 3L model a number of years back. It was a great offroad vehicle and for the money; very comfortable for what I paid. However, 3 months out of warranty I took off in some very soft sand up at the Nth Shore Noosa. I was in low range and heard a loud metallic 'thunk'. Nothing would slip, the car would still plough through. I took it back to the Nissan dealer to find out what was wrong, thinking it was still in warranty. I thought this as I bought it as a demo 3 months old - I was told when I bought it by the dealer that it would still have a 3 year warranty from the point of sale. Turns out that was all BS to ge the sale. Nissan happily charged me for their time looking for what was causing the problem - they found nothing. So I took the vehicle to another Nissan dealer. Same deal - they said nothing was wrong (so in their eyes - the warranty issue is all moot anyway).

I knew different. I purposely took a mate up the beach, bogged it to the point of needing low range, and it would repeatidly make the 'thunk' noise as it took off - I don't want my gear box falling out somewhere up the beach on an incoming tide (or worse - say on semi remote Fraser or Straddie with the family in tow).

So I took the vehicle to a respected 4wd specialist mechanic on the Coast. Unlike Nissan they were able to repeatidly make the vehicle make the 'thunk' noise when it was under load in low range. They dropped the transfer case out, and said it was 'like new' - which it should be as I try to look after my stuff. $1500 later, and with child #3 on the way, combined with the fact that my mate had a worker whose Navara D22 also made the same noise (not that it worried him) I traded my Navara for a 4wd wagon - not a Nissan. I did get an excellent trade on the Navara as it still looked new and they are popular (plus it had a full Nissan service history).

I'll never by another Nissan as a result of how the dealers washed their hands of my vehicle's problem (I'd rarely used low range - and I have driven 4wds all my life), especially with the dealerships deception over the warranty when I bought it. I contacted Nissan Australia via email and never got a satisfactory response - take it to the dealer they said. More fool me I guess for not getting it in writting re the 3yr warranty; live and learn. I suspect you and I live on the same 'Coast' so I'll be happy to PM you the dealer's name who sold me the car if you wish to aviod them.

I realise what I experienced can happen with any brand of car manufacturer. Most of them treat you like a leper once you've handed your cash over and an expensive problem develops in the vehicle. A lady whom I work with had a problem with a new 2.5L ute of another brand and was treated like a leper by the manufacturer and the dealer. Like me she offloaded the vehicle - but hers was 3 weeks old - at her expense. I told her to park the ute outside the dealers yard every Saturday with a sign "buy your lemons here" until they fixed it - but she wasn't that confrontational, plus she is reasonably wealthy so why deal with the headache? Out of principal to how they treated me - I'll never buy another Nissan though (pity -I like the 350Z).

That said, one of my staff at work have a 2.5 Navara and she loves it; neither has she had any issues. Unlike me though, she doesn't do any serious work with her 4wd just all beach and bitumen.

Like Yoot - there are days when I really miss my ute though!!

My Navara had a bad thunk when the steering was at full lock. It was just the metal bump stops which grinded together at full lock. Sounded awful but was normal. I chuckle everytime I hear one making a U-Turn.

Yoot - was it a thunk just at full lock, as mine only made the noise taking off under strain in low range (with the wheels straight ahead)? The 4wd mechanics made the vehicle make the noise by putting it in low range, turning the front wheels into a heavy curb and accelerating gently, they also made it "thunk' by taking the vehicle out the back of Buderim Mt parking on a very steep slope, low range and taking off. In other words - it only made the noise under strain regardless of wheel direction. (like a hammer was hitting the gear box underneath is what it sounded like; one mechanic did suggest it may be the suspension bottoming out, but the curbside test put that theory to rest.

What about considering the new triton GLX 4x4 dual cab, for $34,990?

Yeah mine was at full lock no matter what you where doing. It sounds like the chain in the transfer box talking based on that description.

Mine too, just put grease on the end of the steering arm and it goes away. Usually get it after a heavy wash down after being on the beach.

Yeah I know. Nissan used to do it every service but it wouldn't last 1000kms in dusty conditions.

I replaced the D22 with an 2009 CRD Patrol and haven't looked back.

I disapointing problem on the Navara, however now that its got a few years on the clock ive stopped worrying about it. Overall its not a bad machine.... Had a GQ 4.2 Ute before the Navara awesome 4by, will wait a few years until the kids are bigger then upgrade to a Patrol. Wish they made a dual cab ute in a Patrol or Cruiser!
