Thread: Orica dumps cyanide in Gladstone harbour.

Orica dumps cyanide in Gladstone harbour.

OK... so now we find out that Orica has been dumping cyanide into gladstone harbour at a "safe" level for years... and recently had an accidental spill.
How come this did not show up in all the testing???

Well now the Bligh Govt will most likely find a link to Orica for all fish kills and hang them in order to shift the blame from the dredging project. She probably knew that if she didn't come up with a definite result, some yob like Orica will get caught with some release and cop the lot.

I still believe the problems there are from disturbing 100 years of layered and silted over sequestered toxins being released from the dredging. Once the dredging is finished I bet the waterway recovers to normal again. I also believe that the testing being done is not testing for all contaiminants, only specifics to minimise the number of positive bad results.

It was on the news Phill,,,, channel 10, from memory.
Bloody disgrace, and apparently Orica did not notify authorities for 2 months. However the start of the fish disease thing predates the accident,,,,,
A get out of jail card for the government, they will use it to distract and decieve.

Biggest joke is they tried to call it a "disease", when it was obviously toxic exposure.

I had a good look around.

It appears Orica has been ' dumping ' cyanide into many Australian creeks and river systems for many years.

    Some other info here :- ( from 2006 )

Nothing unusual about cyanide being released within waste water as long as its within required limits. Usual limit is 5mg/L. Australia and most other countries have been using the ocean as a convenient dumping ground since year dot.

I hope it is not 5mg/L that is an awfullly high concentration.
Humility is not a weather condition.

Theoretically, anybody can dump whatever amounts of toxins they wish into the rivers if they first dilute it enough with water to obtain the right level.
Tell me this practice is not going on???

Solution by dilution does go on, has gone on and always will go.

Don't get confused by the 5mg/L. we are not talking milliliters. 5mg/L = 5 parts per million.

Talking in real world here so not activist but is not cyanide in a few differing forms and when in/as water the potency is very much reduced...not just from the dilution factor either simply by it's form/whatever.
