Thread: Buying a Patrol

    Re: Buying a Patrol

Agree Chimo. I can't complain about the ZD30 platform personally having done 140k in the Patrol and another 250k in the Navara (these use a fixed vane turbo and have on a whole been a reliable setup) without needing anything more than oil changes but if I was buying one for serious touring I would definitely go the 4.2. Even better if you can find one of the later model intercooled ones.

The 4.2TD certainly wont make 500hp! The race spec ones make around 180rwkw but these are NOT designed to potter round! A healthy 4.2 with some bolt ons will see around 100rwkw but with a very strong torque curve.

honestly, buy the 4.2 it will be the best decision you make!

only going on numbers quoted by a guy that raced them but he may have been FOS. Either way, in standard trim, still very understressed.

I like that one Chimo but I dont got 40k. Want a newer model but not looking at mortgaging the house.
It would be real nice but something a little cheaper and maybe a little older.

    Ronnie

As discussed, talk to the guy I mentioned and check out his 4.2 that he is replacing with the 4.2 he is building at the moment.
If its already spoken for, he may know of something else.

    Cheers
