Re: spooling mono
This is an area that confuses me too.
I saw on Rex Hunts show that he lays the new spool on the ground on its side. He said that running a stick or pencil through the middle was the wriong way to do it.
Now for the bit that confuses me.
He took a bit of line off the spool and said to look at the direction of rotation. Now the idea is to have the rotation of the line coming off the spool to be the same direction as it goes onto the reel.
So if the rotation off the spool is the wrong direction you just flip the spool over and then it will be correct.
Hope this makes sense. The way I see it is even if i don't understand what i am doing i still have a 50-50 chance of being right :-)

Re: spooling mono
I usually get a bit of twist in the line when spooling mono.
When all the line is on the spool ,I tie a heavy sinker on the end of the line under a good quality swivel and cast it as far as I can into the sea, a couple of times and the twist is gone.

Re: spooling mono
hi
get your local tackle shop to do it. any tackle shop half worth its salt should have the facilities and customer service to do it.

Re: spooling mono
dazza local tackle shop advice was the reason i posed the question i was told to stick @ pencil etc inside spool
@ load it up (as i've been doing for years) @ never to do it the way ba229 says rex hunt advises
as i still have to run line out at speed to get twist out i thought there might be a simple answer i'll try rexy's way
and see if it makes any difference thanks for your replies
cheers brian

i'd be changing tackle shops, go somewhere that provide a service that you are after and stick to them.
there is a gadget you can buy that holds the spool while you put the line on, that might be a solution to your problem
cheers

Re: spooling mono
Mono has to much memory to wind it onto a spinning reel using a pencil through the middle like with braid or winding onto an overhead. You need to wind it onto your reel the same way it is already on the spool. Either sit it on the ground or get your friend to hold it for you, usually so the picture on the front is facing you. Wind on about 10 metres then grab some slack, make a large loop in the line if it twists up the spool is facing the wrong way so swap it round. Make sure you do it the right way though otherwise it'll be twice as bad. Rexy knows what hes on about hes just annoying thats all. Thats how i tell people to do it at work and thats the way i do it to and as of yet hasen't failed.
Jeremy.
