Spooling Braid
Never used braid before but on the way to fishing the Hinchinbrrok channel the other day stopped into #####DO NOT MENTION THIS COMPANY NAME ON THIS WEBSITE. THIS COMPANY STOLE IMAGES FROM THIS SITE AND USED THEM IN AN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and bought some sure catch barid 20lb which was reduced from 81 bucks to 10 bucks. Thought it was worth a try. Anyway had a bastard of a time with it. When I spooled it on my abu 6500 garcia it was so tight when I release the spool it wouldnt even fall on the most sensitive setting. So I spooled some off and wound it on loosely which worked but when I cast out a lure and retrieved it (RMG scorpion) it wound on to tight again. In the end threw the stuff and went back to the mono. However would like to know what wenrt wrong and can anyone give me some advice on how to spool braid
Thanks Devocean

Re: Spooling Braid
i can't imagine how the tightness of the spooling could affect a reel where the spool itself spins unless the line was cutting under itself. braid should be wound very firmly onto a spool, in that rating you should be working up a sweat when spooling up. i have 20lb penn power pro on two smaller abu's the 4600 and 5600 and have never had a problem.

Re: Spooling Braid
When spooling 150yds of Mono and then 300yds of backing on my TLD it was the hardest job I have had to do. Braid should go on fairly tight to prevent it cutting into itself when hooked up to something big.
No matter how tight the line is on the spool, it is impossible for it to affect how the spool freespins. What I think you have done, is that by having the braid on to loose, it has cut under itself and therefore stops the spool from spinning. Unless there is something wrong with the reel, and I doubt that.
I take it that the spool was OK when you removed the braid, I would put it on again, if you kept it, and see how it goes again.

Re: Spooling Braid
reduced from $81 to $10 says a lot - and so does the mart you bought it from - do yourself a favour. If you want to experiment with new tackle, get advice from a tackle professional, not a teenager that sells tennis shoes

Re: Spooling Braid
Actually the guy who sold it to me was a very accomplished fisherman.
