    Spin reel evolution

When I was a young bloke, spin reels had very small line rollers and some didn`t even roll., then a bloke from Cardwell Qld, named Vic McCristal suggested that they should be much bigger in diameter. Well, that eventuated and they even started putting ball bearings in them. Now we see spin reels used for everything from jigging to bait fishing.
There are a lot of spin reels produced now for "bait running" and because of their user friendliness, I, for one use mine occasionly for trolling. What I`m suggesting is that I think it is about time someone put a strike alarm on a spin reel. Any comments welcomed.
    cheers

I can forsee an evolution to a change in spool action. Instead of a rotating bail arm, the gearing will rotate the spool. Basically imagine an overhead reel with the spool at 90 degrees. That way you remove the rotating bail arm and the up down action of the spool. Your 'fixed' bailing point can lay the line like an overhead or bait caster and your fixed bailing point reduces 'line wobble' and you can bulk up the strength of the bailing point so it can get more power out of the same sized reel.

    But that's just my view

I rate the sea martin, ungainly looking thing I agree, but a worthy addition to any rock/surf rod. And surprisingly easy to use too.

sea marton, ugly, line twisting, muthers. They seam to work better with the old thicker type line, the newer line seems to twist more even with ball bearing swivels. Had mine for 20 + years and you cant kill them. Only just mounted mine on the wall of my shed to use as a ausfish beanie holder (works well).
Mitchel also had a simular designed reel but not quite as big as the martin
