Offshore/ point lookout
G/day all this report might rave a bit but i had a great day with fellow aus fishers lucky phill, and sharkbait (chris). Left raby about 5.00am heading for the wave rider bouy off the point, blowing about 15 to 20 s/w we pushed on. Caught up with rob (mackmauler) michael, and dillion they had allready scored there first dolphin fish, so i was pretty keen i tell you to break my viginity on em and it wasnt to long before we had three on board. They went off the bite so we decided to head south for some bottom bashin and dropped on some nice lumps and started getting some nice size trag every drop produced a fish, only one prob it was howling by now and phill had to keep moving us over the spot so we got our share and headed back toward the point. We hit a school of small mack tuna near the group so i took full advantage of one of robs slugs and had a ball on my light rod nailing a few of those.Caught back up with rob and the guys around the group and had some lunch while the boys tried there luck ,got a nice long tom and some reefies, then headed back home about 1.00pm one very happy deckie, just want to say thnx again phill, one of my best days for a long time just a top day all up

Re: Offshore/ point lookout
Hehehe.....good to see you blooded a few Dollies Ray. I got into my first only a few weeks ago, so I know your feeling well. As Rob says - they're good value.
Bloody small mack tuna eh - nice size for trolling. Me thinks by the attire in the pics it may have been a bit nippy out there today. Was blowing it's tits off here at Wellington Point at about 1300-1500. Was wondering who was out and how they were going.
Good work.

Ray, top report for a top day, thanks Phill. Rebait sure is a nice change from the tinnyThe photos are pretty misleading, at that stage the wind was 20-25 knots.

Re: Offshore/ point lookout
Just had a look at the wave graph and it confirms we did have some lumpy seas after 9am, few things i like better than surfing that boat on the diagonal with a rising swellgood to catchup with the rebait team, and a few fish came aboard but it wasnt a day for fishn the wide grounds with any success, mick and dylan handled it well and neither produced any famous brews
dylan also was christened with a dolphinfish, rebait looked the spot to be on a cold windy day

Re: Offshore/ point lookout
Well, as Skipper for the day, I derived great pleasure in seeing the lads get onto a few fish. ( Thanks ALF).
A brisk little s/w'er at the ramp, but Rob assured us it'd be Ok.
Team Mackmauler was in stealth mode across the bay, but managed to meet them just before the bar. Rob's OC taking the shallow water route, with ReBait only getting to 6.7ft.
Seas pretty flat, so 5,000 rpm and scooting. Found some Livies that turned the jig into a knotted dog ! Came across Team mackmauler at the wave rider, pulling in Dollies. 1 on a livie and 2 on pillies for ReBait.
Somehow, Tom Cat Charters managed to squeeze between us and the bouy ( 30 mtrs ) and run over our lines >, no cut offs though.
Wind at this stage was .......howling. Headed S/W to some more protected areas. Shows on the Furuno but fish no playing. Back out wider to 50 mtrs and further south. Small pinnicale and fish. As Ray said, every drop a fish. Tried to hold the big girl in position, but that was neigh on impossible.
With the wind reaching 20 + knots and the seas gettin lumpy, time to head for shelter. Towards Point Lookout at 33kph, which we feel was pretty much the same speed of the wind up our date.
Ray eye's lite up with the first hit by the Mack's. Don't know what he found more exciting, Dollies, Mack's or me exposing the Lycra's from beneath the trackie dacks.![]()

Crossed the passage bar about mid ships in no less than 1.4mtrs of water, and this was around 1pm, so it was 1/2 hour off a very low tide. Back up the Rainbow @ 4,500rpm. Managed to sit in behind a " Snow plough " for the trip from N/E Peel to Raby Bay. All up ReBait travelled 132klms. will update fuel usage later.
Made light work of getting the boat on the trailer at the ramp, despite the crowd. Shoot, that channel is shallow there.! It desperately needs dredging.
Kris and I made our way back to my place for a boat clean, fish filleting session, washed down with a cold XXXX. Doesn't get much better than that.
Thanks to the crew ( Sharkbait = Kris and rankinray = Ray ) for their efforts in making it a very good day, despite the weather.
And to Team Mackmauler, hope you guys didn't get tooooooo wet on the run home ?![]()
Cheers Phill

Re: Offshore/ point lookout
Thats the first pic of re-bait i have seen phill, very impressive rig. I like the choice of outboard. Good to see a few fish came aboard even due to the conditions.
