Easiest fish to catch for novice
What is the easiest fish to target for the people who always tell you they go fishing and never catch anything. I personally tell them the winter whiting atleast to give the kids some interest in fishing. If they are missing them there is definately a tackle problem. Any ideas mailnly landbased pleased as most of these people are landbased.

Hi luke
for the landbase fisho's whether they be kids or Adults yes Winter Whiting but you also have Bream, Tailor, Flathead, Bream are usually the easiest to catch of the lot but there it depends on where they are fishing from the Beach, Rocks, Estuary or Rivers.
When I taught my kids to fish they where quiet happy just to catch a fish whether it was return to sender or not but I would always explain why they had to go back.![]()

But my guess is that the Bream would far easier to catch for kids along with the Whiting.![]()

Luke if you are telling these people are you explaining to them the right tackle and Bait to use from the different locations (not being smart)
but this will help them as well to locate fish if they are beginners

Definatly bread & butter species are the best. Especially with kids they don't what they catch as long as they catch something.
When my kids are old enough ( little girl turned 4 in Feb & hopefully will come out with us to Palmy next summer) I will get them to catch livies. Simple to catch & a bite everytime they put the bait in the water.

easiest fish has to be the humble Bream.
Simplest rigs, will eat anything, not bad fighter, better than average to chew & not real smart either.
My 4yr old son caught the same undersize bream on a sleeper line twice in 15mins from a snagg on the inside of south straddie a month or two back.
If they are landbased any boat ramp, rock wall, jetty - any structure has a resident bream population. The fleas of the sea - bless 'em.

My vote would be the snub nosed garfish at wivenhoe dam, if you can tie a hook on and a float above it and use about a size 12 hook and a bit of prawn it can be a lot of fun.

Thanks for the tip Chris. Now I know were and how to satisfy my fishing urges. Previously a boat and beach man I may have to resort to jetty's and peers as my friends have deserted me.Originally Posted by CHRIS_aka_GWH
Perhaps your 4 year old could teach me a thing or two about staying on your boat. Based on his performance, it seems cacthing small undersize fish keeps you in good favour with the captain.
I must remember next time I see the young fella to advise him not to hook up any big fish at night in daddy's boat as this action will result in a month long boat ban.
Well im off the pumping Jetty....

mal,
the presence of your X chromosomes is really showing. #
Good to see you've cottoned on though.
Rule 1(clearly displayed on the inside aft face of the motor cowl) - DO NOT OUTFISH THE SKIP.
The month is almost up Mal & your arms should have returned to their normal length by now - our operators are waiting for your call.

The old toad fish(toado) or whatever you want to call it is the easiest fish to catch, even when you don't want to you still get them.
