    Stonefish - ODD!

Saw something that I thought was strange yesterday morning when driftfishing off the bottom end of Bribie. A stonefish came drifting by, paddling along on the surface in about 30 foot of water. Only a little guy about 6 - 7" long but I thought this was odd for a bottom dweller like a stonefish.
The part that was even more odd was that about an hour or so later we saw another one in the channel over near Gilligans!
Anyone seen or heard of this before? I know that stonefish do inhabit the Bribie passage but seeing 2 in one day kind of make you think a bit.
    Cheers, Davo.

Nope - definitely stonefish. Strange to see out in open water like that. Maybe the rain last week sturred things up a bit?

May have been injured or sick. Quite often sick or injured fish will lose their mobility and consquent ability to control their buoyancy. Pity any bird that has a go at that one if that's the case.

A few years ago the wife of a guy I work with stood on one in the bribie passage. Doctor almost amputated her foot a week later. She was very lucky, made a full recovery.

Of course she told the usual stories of unimaginable pain - and that's from someone who had been through child birth

I used to jump overboard and have a swim up there occasionally during summer. [smiley=stunned.gif]
Think I might stop doing that now I have read this.
