Re: SHARK REPELLENT
a few of the guys that spearfish up here use them, theyre known as shark shields. They are basically a thick cable that straps to your calf and trails along behind you, it emits an electric pulse from the end which overloads the sharks receptors, giving a "shield" a few metres in diameter. From all reports they work well, the sharks literally hit a wall and cannot swim through it, although if you accidentally touch your leg with it it gives a big shocklol

Best repellant is having superior speed over the nearest person in the water!
You don't have to go faster than the shark, just stay ahead of the other guy!
Works for me!

Story out of perth, one diver hit twice by the same shark. It had a nibble of the guy . His mate turns up with one of the mentioned gizmos' and the shark high tails it. Maybe he didn't taste so good, maybe they work!!!!!

Yes they appear to work well. The "SharkPOD" invention is licensed technology from South Africa to SeaChange Technologies of Adelaide, South Australia.
There also exists a patent on a chemical extract that repells sharks extremely well. This research is being done by Shark Defense of Oak Ridge, New Jersey. The extract was originally made from rotting shark carcasses and has no effect on fish.
