Old fashioned Potato Scallops
Ok, a week or so ago there was the topic of best fish n chips in bris vegas. For me some of my fondest memories of good fish n chips came with a freshly made potato scallop. These days finding one that isn't pre-made and frozen is nigh impossible. I remember watching the cook dip the scallop in the batter before dropping it in the pan, you just can't find that these days. I really hate ordering pototo scallops to find I have been given a frozen potato cake with about as enjoyable as eating cardboard.
The best scallop I have found in recent memory is not from a fish'n'chip shop but from Emmanuels carvery in post office square in the city (their roast sandwich are the best in the city too). Other than that the fish'n'chop shop in Nundah village ain't too bad.
I would be interested if you guys could share any great spot for a good fish and scallop feed.
Cheers
Scott

the Holy Mackeral at Noosaville
& because a real potato varies in size & the butt end is smaller than the middle - you might order 2 potato scallops but in reality they'll give you six.

Hi went to a seaside village in the UK a few years back. At lunch time we saw this queue of people snaking out the door and down the street. Best advertising ever. We joined the queue and had a great feed of fish and chips.

one speciality I have tried is thinly shave sweet potato (into a bowl of cold water and vinegar to stop them from going brown.)
Then deep fry them in oil untill just crisp.
Serve with a dipping sauce of 50% sweet chili sauce 50% mint jelly.

Wayne that used to run Jay Dee's takeaway on Orange Grove Road Coopers Plains made by far, the best scallops.
Sadly his wife got ill and he had to sell up.
