Depends whether the boat is going to be on it when you do it. I would think that spraying would be easier, probably a better application than brushing, but you'll have to look at what is going to happen to overspray and so forth.
But overall, my choice would be to spray if possible.

You'll lose a lot with a pressure can. I would suggest you drop the boat off on a few tires and paint the trailer by hand. Sure it takes longer and is a bit harder, but you will end up with a thicker better result and use less.

Re: Aerosol or Can
Painted my last trailer, only took just over 1 hour. A lot easier when the boats off tho #
Boat was back on the trailer within 8 hours, you could do it at the ramp and go fishing for the day #
Cheers,

Would be a lot cheaper to paint rather use a aero can, better coverage too

Falcon before you rush into the fish oil have a look at a product called Penetrol its a paint additive from the hardware store. We got onto it while painting a mates steel boat, when used neat from the tin its like water and easy to brush on, it also "walks' in under seams, cracks and welds etc and dries hard. I had a lawnmowing run and used to paint the trailer floor with it and in 15yrs only replaced one floor although it was always hot and sweaty.
I put a neat coat on first then put a cupful into the paint as well.
Using this stuff we gave away rust converters and fish oil, but like anything else you have to reapply eventually for more coats. I've not used it on a boat trailer but would be surprised if it wasn't OK; its the 'walking' I like it gets where you can't brush or spray, I still use it on my car also if a scratch is visible.. In hot weather it takes about 24hrs toset so you would have to drop the boat on the grass while painting or leave in the water.

fish oil is next to useless, Lanoguard is good. There have been quite a few posts on this topic before if you look back or do a search.

Re: Aerosol or Can
I just brought a 1976 model trailer and the old bloke coated everything in grease when it was new. When I went to undo all the rollers etc to fit the tinny not one bolt was stuck (you beauty!!. Maybe thats the way to go?? Looks like a rusty, dirty old trailer but under the crap it's like brand new (or nearly
). Might deter the trailer thieves as well.

Tectyl (for steel) make a great product but like all of them it's no good going over rust, you need to clean that up first and that is what takes the longest. You can buy it in big cans and I know one bloke who thins it with diesel and sprays it on and into the trailer.
