    polyurethane repaint

    Howdy folks.
Just bought an old CC reef ranger - great tub but needs a cleanup. As with any boat of it's vintage it has at least a thousand old drill holes in it! + some crazing and chips etc.
I'm thinking of maybe a repaint and would like to know from any of you learned souls what you know about polyurethane paint - what's involved with prep? is it hard enough to handle trailer rollers underneath etc? Also is it all worth it?? -maybe some matched gelcoat to patch up the dodgy bits, polish and be done with it...and go fish.

While I'm at - if anyone is familiar with this hull can they advise repowering or any other tips??

the cheaper option would to be use 2 pak auto paint, not as good as poli u if the boat is to be left moored.
    cheers

    ps
maybe an option to do your repairs as stated nad give the boat a light sand with 600 and then polish

    Re: polyurethane repaint

Mc I'd get hold of some gelcoat repair putty about $20:00 from marine shops can be color matched then lightly sand crazed areas etc depending on the thickness of the original gelcoat this may be all thats required followed by a good polish. the trouble with painting with poly is that any future repair work it has to be removed to get at the glass underneath. Talk to your local fibreglass supply company they can usually supply you with step by step instructions on how to approach your problem. hope this helps Andrew.

Mc - I love the shape of the old Cruise Craft Reef Ranger - they basically look like a mini bertram with clinkers of course - interested to know how much you invested - Ive missed a couple because i was just not fast enough.

What colour combination does your boat have - Any pics?

    thanks

    Re: polyurethane repaint

Ta for all the advice - i'm leaning towards a patch up - who needs a party boat anyway?!

    Bigmack:
Yeah a classic look - i was sucked in pretty quickly and really chased hard but consider it a reasonable deal- $8200 with an excellent trailer and throw away donk.
Not sure about roof and screen setup yet - definately practical and dry...and character.

Unfortunately have to sell my Seafarer Vsea 474 - such a great unit.

    Cheers

Thanks mate - nice picture - gone to have a look at boatpoint. I like the ones with the navy trim on white.
