    Seisia Wharf bait fish

Does anyone know the name of the bait fish that swarm around the wharf at Seisa, Cape York.

    Thanks
    Martin

When I was there the bait we caught was what I consider a spotted herring. It is very similar looking to the southern herring. I have heard them called sardines as well, although I am led to beleive that this is not correct.

    Hi Martin,
Locally they are known as "sardines"
but I think they are a spotted herring. They are also called "Tup" in creole (which is the general language spoken by islanders up here). One thing for sure is there are heaps of them. It would be a very stressfull life for them.
    Cheers
